Writer-Workshops-Overview

Hi, I'm Camilla Myers, I run CSRO's writing workshops for scientists and engineers. Writing is such an important skill for a career in research, well, almost any career, of course, yet so many people find it difficult and time consuming. Me included, back in the day. I started my career as a research scientist struggling to get my papers written and published, yet later in life, and with wonderful support from my supervisors and mentors, I became a scientific journal editor, and so I learned what it takes to write clearly and to use the paper structure to get my message across. I made decisions on literally thousands of papers over around nine years as a journal editor, so I really saw what works, and what does not, in writing. I want to share what I learned, so that you can get your message across. My workshops are designed to make writing easier by helping you understand some of the critical points in sentence and paragraph structure and by showing you how to work with a document structure to tell your story in a way that will give it real impact. My workshops are quite small. I take no more than 20 people, and usually there are only between about 12 and 16. They are highly interactive. You will spend much more than half the time in activities or working on your document. All my workshops are tailored for the group. I like to work with both the host organisation and the individual participants, to design a course that meets the needs and the skills levels of the group, as well as contextualising the course to the group's particular fields of research. My workshops are motivational. I work to show you how you can write your paper, grant proposal, or report, and I give you the confidence to go away and actually finish after the workshop.
