Dr Megan Fisher, Executive Manager – IP and Licensing (MMM Group), has tertiary qualifications in science and business and an outstanding track record in strategic management, business development and technology commercialisation.

Current activities

Dr Megan Fisher is responsible for the intellectual property and licensing activities for CSIRO's Manufacturing, Materials and Minerals Group. 

The activities of the Group span materials and process science and engineering and the Future Manufacturing Flagship, Light Metals Flagship, Minerals Down Under and the Health Technologies activities of CSIRO.

Dr Fisher has been a key driver and negotiator in the commercialisation of major intellectual property transactions for the Group.

Major deals have included:

  • the spin out of a biomaterials platform, which raised A$5m in capital and was valued at A$10 million for CSIRO
  • commercialisation of key intellectual property with a major Australian biopharmaceutical company
  • CSIRO involvement in a spin off company arising from CSIRO research in the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Diagnostics (Evogenix now Arana Therapeutics Ltd)
  • CSIRO participation in several CRCs
  • Commercialisation and licensing of the RAFT technology

Dr Fisher has been a customer lead for a number of large multinational companies including DuPont, GE and Procter & Gamble.

She has been a board member of Intalysis, the CRC for Polymers, chairing the Commercialisation Advisory Committee and an alternate board member for Bio21 Australia Ltd.

Dr Fisher has been a key driver and negotiator in the commercialisation of major intellectual property transactions for the Group.

Background

Prior to joining CSIRO, Dr Fisher was a member of the senior management team of the successful dual listed Australian biotechnology company Progen Pharmaceuticals Limited (Progen Pharmaceuticals Limited is listed on both the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) and the American stock exchange, NASDAQ). 

Dr Fisher held several roles at Progen Pharmaceuticals Limited including VP Business Development in which she was responsible for the business development, commercial and communication activities of the company. 

She also held the role of Sales and Marketing Manager with responsibility for the local and international marketing of a range of life science research products.

Her first role with Progen Pharmaceuticals Limited was as Research and Development Manager with responsibility for the management of both an external research program in the area of anti-cancer therapeutics and internal research directed to product development.

Academic qualifications

Dr Fisher graduated from The University of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, with a Bachelor of Science (First Class Honours).

She completed doctoral studies in organic chemistry and biochemistry at The University of Sydney and a Masters of Business Administration from the Queensland University of Technology, Australia.

Dr Fisher has also completed a Diploma of Corporate Director at the University of New England, New South Wales, Australia.
