International Activities

CSIRO works with leading scientific organisations in more than 80 countries.

As part of a commitment to help fight global poverty, CSIRO is a partner in a newly launched Australian Development Gateway - an innovative website that delivers practical development expertise to people in the Asia-Pacific region.

The USA continues to be CSIRO's leading international partner. The USA has always been CSIRO’s strongest partner and 2008 has been no exception with 292 co-written publications and 268 collaborations, placing them in the number one position.

Increasing the productivity of Africa’s agricultural systems is one of the most significant challenges facing global agriculture – a new CSIRO and AusAID initiative is helping African’s develop long term solutions.

CSIRO is uniquely placed to deliver integrated solutions to help solve the problems facing developing countries. Of the more than 1300 individual CSIRO international activities undertaken since 2002, one third has been with developing countries. 

CSIRO hosts the Australian World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Office, developing common protocols promoting the evolution of the Web and ensuring its interoperability.

The Exploring Mekong Region Futures project aims to improve the sustainability of the Mekong Region, by investigating the complex relationships between the production, distribution, and use of energy, food and water of the region.

CSIRO is working with farmers in Cambodia, Laos, Bangladesh and India to identify and test locally feasible climate change adaptation options.

CSIRO has a long history of engagement with Chile, primarily in mining, forestry, marine, agricultural and astronomy research.

CSIRO and its Chinese collaborators have enjoyed a rich and mutually beneficial relationship over the last 35 years. This relationship has delivered not only scientific but also trade, cultural and social benefits to both countries and continues to flourish with every new collaboration.
