WA:ERA combines the multi-disciplinary expertise of three established research institutions: CSIRO, Curtin University and The University of Western Australia. Through WA:ERA, we deploy world-scale resources on oil and gas industry research challenges.
Headquartered at the Australian Resources Research Centre (ARRC) at Perth’s Western Australian Technology Park and with a high level Board of Management and Industry Advisory Group WA:ERA is one of the principal hubs in the State’s oil and gas technology cluster. It brings together three research organisations to share knowledge, skills and facilities, creating a single point access for research partners.
Working in partnership with companies and Government as part of Western Australia’s expanding energy sector, WA:ERA is easily accessible and is rapidly developing into one of the world’s leading oil and gas research organisations.
Through collaboration, WA:ERA's mission is to create a world class Energy Technology Centre in Perth which is acknowledged for the provision of premium quality research, and development and education services, and delivery of technology based solutions to the global energy industry, in particular to the West Australian oil and gas industries. The Centre aims to be in the world’s top two or three oil and gas research laboratories, positioning Perth and Western Australia as a leading hub for the international oil industry.
WA:ERA has three core strategic research themes targeting key technology challenges for the industry in WA namely, subsurface technologies, gas technologies, and facilities and subsea technologies. With the core capability established, WA:ERA and its industry partners are now building a portfolio of client-specific and joint-industry funded research initiatives.
WA:ERA also offers education and training services, primarily through Curtin University of Technology and The University of Western Australia to provide:
- technology transfer to customers for sponsored R&D projects
- basic to advanced technical competency programs
- oil and gas masters programs and
- customised training programs based on a customer's specific requirements.
The alliance has already established industry partnerships with Woodside Energy Ltd, Chevron Australia Pty Ltd, and CGGVeritas. The alliance is a vehicle for maximising ongoing and future investment in research projects in Western Australia that are relevant to:
- oil and gas exploration and development
- hydrocarbon processing
- industry related health, safety and environmental issues
- education and training initiatives.
