Current activities
Mr Begley has been General Manager, Business Development and Commercialisation at CSIRO Ecosystem Sciences (formerly Entomology) since 2005.
In this role he oversees a broad portfolio of research areas balanced between commercial and public benefit research.
Mr Begley is involved in developing commercial partnerships around the emerging industrial bio-based economy.

He is also the chair of the CSIRO Bioeconomy Strategy Development Working Group.
Background
Mr Begley began his career in private industry where he spent 10 years at Dow Chemical and Akzo Nobel and was involved in water treatment and polymer production technologies.
In 2002 he moved to CSIRO where he was involved with the commercialisation of chemical engineering technologies He is also the interim CEO for a venture, BioRemCo, that is currently raising capital.

Achievements
Mr Begley was a contributing author to a series of papers on bioeconomy related issues which was published by the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation (RIRDC) in 2007.
