Dr Darrell Williamson fosters the scientific research capabilities of CSIRO's ICT Centre.

Dr Darrell Williamson has been one of Australia's leaders in the ongoing development of the service science and engineering agenda. His research expertise is in signal processing and control.
Current activities
Dr Williamson oversees the strategic science planning of CSIRO's Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Centre and has overall responsibility for the nurturing of the Centre's research capabilities.
Dr Williamson has had a long association with Australia’s CRC program, including helping establish the Smart Services CRC.
The ICT Centre has world-leading capabilities in:
- autonomous systems − robotics and wireless sensor networks
- information engineering
- wireless and networking technologies
- e-health.
Background
Dr Williamson joined CSIRO in 2007. He has most recently been Director of CSIRO's eResearch program which seeks to apply advanced computing, data management, networking and collaboration to research conducted throughout the organisation.
Prior to CSIRO, Dr Williamson was Chief Executive Officer and Research Director of the Smart Internet Technology Cooperative Research Centre (CRC).
He has had a long association with Australia’s CRC program, including helping establish the Smart Services CRC.
His other CRC positions included:

- Chief Executive Officer, CRC for Advanced Computational Systems
- Board Member, Renewable Energy CRC.

Achievements
To undertake his Doctoral studies, Dr Williamson was awarded a Fullbright Scholarship and a Harvard University Scholarship.
He has authored two books on signal processing and digital control and over 100 refereed journal and conference papers.
He was foundation Professor of the Department of Engineering at ANU and established their Bachelor of Systems Engineering degree program.
He has also sat on many advisory and review committees in academia and industry.
