Demand Side Energy Systems (DSES) research is developing new technologies which manage the way energy is used and improves how electricity is delivered.
This research area spans:
-
energy efficiency
-
distributed generation
-
renewable generation
-
end-use efficiency
-
energy management
-
combined heat and power
-
smart grids.
The DSES group is comprised of four main teams, each focused on developing new technologies which will reduce greenhouse gas emissions:
-
Intelligent Energy: focuses on finding smarter ways to use, transmit and generate energy
-
Solar Cooling: researches the use of solar heat energy to provide space cooling
-
Secure Grids: working on ways to improve the reliability of our electricity networks by increasing efficiency, removing common points of failure and supporting the integration of renewables
-
Energy Harvesting: looking at ways of capturing energy from the environment for use in low-power electronics.
