CSIRO’s National Solar Energy Centre (NSEC) researches, develops and demonstrates ground breaking large-scale solar technologies.

Based at CSIRO’s National Energy Centre in Newcastle, New South Wales, with additional facilities at CSIRO's Clayton Laboratories in Victoria, the NSEC is a hub for national and international solar research, promoting collaboration with - and partnerships between - researchers, government and industry.

The NSEC's facilities include two solar tower research facilities, state-of-the-art laboratories for photovoltaic cell manufacture and testing, and a two-room calorimeter for testing solar cooling systems.

These are used not only by our own researchers, but also by other organisations around the world, for experimentation and component testing.

The National Solar Energy Centre

The National Solar Energy Centre is a focal point for solar research in Australia, bringing together state-of-the-test facilities for solar thermal, solar photovoltaic and solar cooling research and product development.

Melbourne: Clayton, Vic (Clayton laboratories)

CSIRO’s site at Clayton, Victoria is adjacent to Monash University and the Australian Synchrotron. More than 800 staff members work in energy, resources, forestry, manufacturing, chemicals, health, information, agribusiness and more.
