The campus of The Australian National University is home to the Canberra-based staff of CSIRO Mathematical and Information Sciences and CSIRO ICT Centre.

Location summary

Within walking distance of both CSIRO's Black Mountain laboratories and the centre of Canberra, this site houses research that focuses on mathematics, statistics and information and communication technologies (ICT) for business and industry. 

Based at this site are more than sixty researchers and support staff from:

  • CSIRO Mathematical and Information Sciences (CMIS)
  • CSIRO ICT Centre.

Location activities

Research at this site includes:

  • using bioinformatics and imaging to improve agriculture and human health
  • new methods for handling large amounts of complex data
  • innovative statistical and mathematical techniques to improve our understanding of environmental systems and better enable their sustainable management
  • decision technology tools to help businesses understand their data and make more informed and reliable decisions
  • improving mathematical modelling of complex air traffic management systems
  • new ways to manage, query, analyse, navigate and sort information from many sources.
