CSIRO 2010 Lifetime Achievement Medal recipients
The CSIRO Medal for Lifetime Achievement is awarded to individuals with a record of sustained and meritorious achievement over a prolonged period of CSIRO service.

Dr Ta-Yan Leong received this award for his integral contribution to CSIRO’s International Engagement Group.
Dr Leong has been the core of CSIRO’s corporate international group for 25 years, supporting the full range of CSIRO’s international activities, building deep, trusting and long-term productive relationships with overseas partners which have benefitted CSIRO and Australia.
Dr Ta-Yan Leong has initiated significant new collaboration programs with partners in key countries such as China and Japan
He has initiated significant new collaboration programs with partners in key countries such as China and Japan and has mentored younger staff.
In 2006, he was seconded to the Australian Government’s Department of Education, Science and Training to assist with the development of the Government’s programs for international science cooperation.
His language skills in Mandarin, Japanese and German have been crucial for senior CSIRO staff and Australian Government colleagues and Ministers in their international engagements.
Dr Leong’s commitment to supporting and furthering Australia’s international scientific linkages has been central to CSIRO’s deeply respected position within the Australian research community and Government on international engagement, and to the improvement of CSIRO’s science and delivery of impact through international partners.
