The launch of the ECHONET project links CSIRO with the Federal Department of Broadband, Communication and Digital Economy and the Tasmanian Government.
It also links medical staff and patients in the hospital’s intensive care unit with other specialists at the Royal Hobart Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Cardiology Department, using broadband connections.
The trial has already proved successful for a number of critically-ill patients, one of whom has used the technology to thank doctors half a state away.
