We’re working with Australian biomedical device companies to develop new materials and manufacturing processes for medical implants.

The challenge

Improving surgical outcomes

Medical implants are devices that are placed inside or on the surface of the body. In many cases, implants are used to replace or repair body parts, helping patients recover from traumatic accidents, tumour removals, and other debilitating conditions.

Risks of implants include complications during placement or removal, infection and implant failure. Surgeons are constantly looking for new ways to design and manufacture implants in order to reduce these risks

Our response

Next generation implants and devices

We’re working with Australian biomedical device companies to develop new materials and manufacturing processes for medical implants, improving design and reducing complications and risks for patients.

We’re doing this using new technologies such as 3D printing. This can speed up the development and test phase for implant design, leading to customised implants individually tailored for a patient's unique circumstances.
