CSIRO’s Dr Mike Raupach explains why the Earth is absorbing less carbon dioxide and how it will affect our climate. (6:22)
Research published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Science on 23 November 2007 shows recent increases in the proportion of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere are partially due to the Earth losing its ability to absorb this most damaging of all greenhouse gases.
In this podcast, one of the co-authors of the paper, CSIRO’s Dr Mike Raupach, explains the findings and how continued increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide levels could affect average global temperatures.
Dr Raupach says the findings indicate that reducing carbon dioxide emissions will play an important part in mankind’s efforts to reduce the rate of global warming.
