The findings come from the internationally respected climate research group – the Global Carbon Project (GCP).

This group formed to assist the science community to establish a common, mutually agreed knowledge base supporting policy debate and action to slow the rate of increase of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research scientist Dr Pep Canadell is the executive director of the GCP, and one of over 30 international scientists involved in the delivery of a new key paper looking at the changes in carbon in the Earth's system over the past year.

In this podcast, Dr Canadell explains the increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere as natural carbon sinks on land and in the ocean struggle to keep pace in absorbing human carbon pollution.
