CSIRO's Food Futures Flagship is using satellite technology to develop a virtual fence for livestock that allows better use of pasture, protects the environment and reduces labour.

The project is focussed on developing an animal-friendly virtual fencing system that enables the animals to be confined without using fixed fences. So far the research team has developed a prototype system and successfully demonstrated its use on a herd of cattle.

This video demonstrates the system and includes brief interviews with the CSIRO researchers:

  • Dr Caroline Lee
  • Mr Chris Crossman
  • Dr Andrew Fisher (no longer works with CSIRO).
