Dr John Church's award-winning climate change research

This video features Dr John Church, winner of a 2006 CSIRO Medal for Research Achievement for his work in studying the effects of global warming. (2:00)

This video addresses the work of Dr John Church which won him a 2006 CSIRO Medal for Research Achievement.

Dr Church, from CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research, is one of the world-leaders in studying the effects of global warming on the oceans, including the rate of sea-level rise.

The impact of global warming on the world’s oceans is one of the most significant aspects of climate change, particularly given that in most countries, including Australia, the majority of the population lives near the coast where sea level rises could have a huge impact.

Dr Church's challenges are to estimate how the ocean responds to the impact of climate change, to enable the development of cost effective plans in response to sea level rise.
