EXPERTS TO DISCUSS SOYBEAN'S ROLE IN AUSTRALIA

Soybean scientists, farmers and processors will gather in Brisbane on 15 September 1998 to discuss what the humble soybean means to Australia.

Organised by CSIRO Tropical Agriculture, the 10th Annual Soybean Conference will focus on human health and nutritional issues, the genetic improvement of soybeans, crop technology, processing technology, marketing, and livestock nutrition.

According to the conference's organiser, CSIRO Tropical Agriculture's Andrew James, an important theme of the conference will be soybean quality for human consumption.

"Dr Thomas Carter, from North Carolina State University in the USA, will be explaining how health concerns have fuelled an interest in soybean as a food, and how it affects human health. Other speakers will be addressing a wide range of topics such as soybean production and market trends in Australia, breeding for culinary quality, integrating soybeans and pasture improvement, salt-enhanced insecticides with potential for soybeans, and breeding for drought survival."
