CSIRO SIGNS SCIENCE AGREEMENT WITH SINGAPORE
The signing today of a Collaborative Agreement between the Institute for Molecular Agrobiology (IMA) at the University of Singapore, and Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), signals the beginning of a potentially exciting relationship between CSIRO
and IMA.The Agreement was signed at a ceremony at the university today by the Managing Director of the Institute for Molecular Agrobiology, Prof. Sundaresan, and Dr Elizabeth Heij, Chief of CSIRO Tropical Agriculture.
According to Dr Heij, the strength of the agreement lies in the compatibility of the two institutions.
"CSIRO Tropical Agriculture specialises in strategic agricultural research, while the Institute for Molecular Agrobiology (IMA) is world class when it comes to developing technologies for commercial release," she said.
"Of particular interest is the very strong market focus the Institute maintains in its drive to commercialise new technologies. The establishment of a formal relationship has the potential to bring together CSIRO's research strength with the development capabilities of IMA."
The Collaborative Agreement establishes the framework for more detailed planning of cooperative research projects.
