BUILDING A BRIGHT FUTURE THROUGH R&D
How does energy efficient housing produce fewer greenhouse gas emissions? How are we leading the world in mobile telephone technology? What did we do to be the first to properly engineer the surface of polymers for industry and how do you identify the most cost effective road and railway routes?
CSIRO Built Environment Sector scientists have developed software that estimates new houses' energy ratings that results in houses being up to 5° cooler in summer. The Nationwide Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS) can reduce energy costs by as much as 40%.
Another world-leading software developed by this CSIRO Sector is being used by Telstra Mobilenet throughout Australia to re-tune both digital and analogue networks, resulting in significant improvements to signal interference and loss. Known as FASE, this technology can be applied to a range of industries dependent on complex timetabling and rostering procedures.
SICOR technology stands to revolutionise industries' ability to engineer the surface of polymers providing cost savings, enhanced durability and strength for painting and bonding applications while meeting global environmental standards.
ALIGN3D is a route planning software package that can reduce road and rail construction costs by more than 30% and planning time by 12-18 months. It has been proven on a number of demonstrations including a number of commissions with the Road Traffic Authority of New South Wales.
CSIRO Built Environment Sector provides scientific solutions for Australia's infrastructure industries, which combined, add over $60 billion each year to the nation's asset base.
CSIRO Built Environment Sector is showcasing some of their leading-edge technology at the Manufesto Conference, held at Melbourne Convention Centre, September 23-25.
