Helping Perth to recycle waste water

Instead of using precious groundwater to irrigate public parks and for industry, Managed Aquifer Recharge is showing the way to use water wisely. Read more.


Model solutions for Great Barrier Reef

Sugar cane growing in Queensland.Scientists and natural resource managers can now link economic factors, hydrology and ecological issues with a model designed to assist management decisions as we solve the problems of excessive erosion, sediments and nutrients in the Great Barrier Reef catchments. The model captures some of the non-market benefits of water, essential if we are to make the right investment decisions. Read more.


Australians become water experts at home

Water for a Healthy Country Flagship is helping householders better manage their water.Urban householders will soon have a new tool to help them be more water efficient. Software developed by the Water for a Healthy Country Flagship called House Water Expert will give consumers an accurate way to understand their water use and then help them assess ways to cut waste. Knowledge grows for Murray flows

Image of the Murray Mouth. Copyright MDBC.More than a hundred jewfish fishermen and a third of Adelaide’s fish supplies in the 1930s, down to less than ten multi-species fishers and a vastly degraded estuary – that’s the current picture in the Coorong.

The Flagship has documented information on the Ramsar-listed Coorong region in South Australia and collated this in a Knowledge Platform. The Platform specifies the physical, chemical and ecological drivers that are essential if we are to manage the area better. Read more.

The Water for a Healthy Country Flagship is a CSIRO initiative and part of the National Research Flagships program that aims to deliver scientific solutions to advance Australia's most important national objectives. One of the largest scientific initiatives ever mounted in Australia, it aligns closely with the Federal Government's National Research Priorities. The initiative brings together our national research resources to deliver breakthroughs in fields ranging from healthcare to light metals and the environment.
