And now for today’s ocean weather conditions…

Charts of near real-time ocean currents and temperatures are being used by Australia’s ocean users, assisting them to operate more safely and efficiently. These charts provide information about the surface and upper two kilometres of the ocean and serve in the same way that atmospheric weather forecasts assist land based populations.  Read More.

 

 


Deep ocean coralOcean corals provide key to climate changes

Recent analysis by CSIRO Marine Research and US scientists implies that key oceanographic features, influencing Australian climate and the coastal environment, are changing. Deep ocean corals, recovered at depths of 1,000 metres in the Southern Ocean, are signalling a previously unknown pattern of temperate oceanic climate change, over the past 200 years. Read more.

The Wealth from Oceans Flagship together with the NSW Government and CSIRO Marine Research are spearheading a joint research program aimed at providing fisheries, aquatic industries and recreational marine users access to healthy and productive regional marine ecosystems. Read more.
