Meet the Flagship Advisory Committee

Professor Tony BurgessStrategic advice on key Preventative Health Flagship research activities is provided by the Preventative Health Flagship Advisory Committee, comprising three CSIRO and six external members.

The committee is chaired by Professor Tony Burgess, Director of the Melbourne Branch of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research.

In 1977 Dr Burgess became the first person in the world to purify a hormone which regulated blood cell production, GM-CSF. The most recent phase of his research life has been directed towards colon cancer biology.

Other external committee members are:

  • Professor Bruce Armstrong, Head, School of Public Health, University of Sydney
  • Professor Felix Bochner, Head, Department of Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology, University of Adelaide
  • Dr Alison Coutts, Director, Head of Research, Emerging Growth Capital Pty Ltd
  • Professor Kerin O’Dea, Director, Menzies School of Health Research
  • Dr Dave Roberts, Director, Australian Food and Grocery Council

The three CSIRO members are:

  • Dr Richard Head, Director, Preventative Health Flagship, and Sector Coordinator, Health, CSIRO Health Sciences and Nutrition, CSIRO
  • Dr Graeme Woodrow, Chief, Health Sciences and Nutrition, CSIRO
  • Professor Alastair Robertson, Chief Executive Officer, Food Science Australia

The committee has met on three occasions and is due to meet again in March, 2005.
