Our nation's ageing population has impacts on
all of us, with one quarter of Australians expected to be aged over 65 years
by 2044-5. In this edition of the Preventative Health UPDATE, we
highlight how the work of the Preventative Health National Research Flagship
is responding to the challenges facing our nation.
$97 Million Research Collaboration Fund Goes Live
The Australian Government has announced the launch of the $97 million Flagship Collaboration Fund to support collaborative research between universities, the CSIRO and other publicly funded research agencies. Read more.

Analysing six years worth of weather and air quality records for Brisbane and Melbourne is providing Flagship scientists with a useful basis to develop future health warnings for people suffering ailments affected by environmental conditions such as asthma. Read more.

Preventative Health Flagship tackles dementia
New research has revealed that the number of Australians with dementia is expected to exceed 730,000 (2.8 per cent of the projected population) by 2050, highlighting the importance of the Preventative Health National Research Flagship’s research efforts to tackle this disease. Read more.

The Preventative Health Flagship is a CSIRO initiative and part of the National Research Flagships program that aims to deliver scientific solutions to advance Australia's most important national objectives. One of the largest scientific initiatives ever mounted in Australia, it aligns closely with the Federal Government's National Research Priorities. The initiative brings together our national research resources to deliver breakthroughs in fields ranging from healthcare to light metals and the environment.
