$97 Million Research Collaboration Fund Goes Live

The Australian Government has announced the launch of the $97 million Flagship Collaboration Fund to support collaborative research between universities, the CSIRO and other publicly funded research agencies.

The Collaboration Fund, part of the Government’s Backing Australia’s Ability - Building our Future through Science and Innovation package, will invest $96.8 million over seven years in research geared to contribute to the objectives of CSIRO’s National Research Flagships program.

During 2005/6 $8.75m will be available across the three components of the fund.  They include:

1. A Flagship Collaborative Research Program, comprising:
   • Flagship Clusters – minimum $1 million*
   • Flagship Projects – minimum $100,000*
     
2. Flagship Visiting Fellowships – maximum $100,000*
   
3. Flagship Postgraduate Scholarships 

CSIRO is now calling for proposals for Flagship Clusters and Visiting Fellowships, with applications closing on June 30 and June 10 respectively.
