Message from the Director
We are entering a world where current and future health costs will challenge economies like never before. We
are entering a world where scientific innovation will be vital to face that
challenge, to ensure Australians are able to experience more years of good
health; to increase active participation in society by an ageing population;
and enhanced independence and autonomy.
The importance of linking health data was explored at CSIRO's third Science for Breakfast briefing for Parliamentarians in Canberra on 30 November 2005. Read more. CSIRO makes connections in Southeast Asia
The scientific opportunities emerging in Southeast Asia were discussed at a major international conference on Nutrigenomics in Singapore in December. Read more.
Nine primary and secondary science teachers from South Australia visited five Preventative Health Flagship laboratories across the country as part of a nationwide tour to develop science amongst school children. Read more.
Australia’s role in the development of the Semantic Web was recently recognised when Flagship research leader Dr David Hansen was accepted as a participant in the Semantic Web for Health Care and Life Sciences Interest Group (HCLSIG). The Preventative Health Flagship is a CSIRO initiative and part of the National Research Flagships program that aims to deliver scientific solutions to advance Australia's most important national objectives. One of the largest scientific initiatives ever mounted in Australia, it aligns closely with the Federal Government's National Research Priorities. The initiative brings together our national research resources to deliver breakthroughs in fields ranging from healthcare to light metals and the environment. |
