The scientific opportunities emerging in Southeast Asia were discussed at a major international conference on Nutrigenomics in Singapore in December.

A delegation of CSIRO scientists, led by the Preventative Health and Food Futures Research Flagships, participated in the First International Conference on Nutrigenomics by the International Life Sciences Institute Southeast Asia Region.

The landmark conference brought together 420 delegates from 33 countries to explore the interactions between nutrition and genetics. It involved five CSIRO speakers and poster presentations by five CSIRO scientists.

The two flagships also hosted a post-conference workshop to further explore collaboration opportunities in gut health.

Preventative Health Flagship Director Dr Richard Head said the opportunities for collaboration between researchers in the wider South East Asian region through the conference were unique.

“Through creating important linkages with our regional colleagues, we can better work towards improving the health and wellbeing of people throughout Australia and the world,” he said.
