Welcome to the first edition of the Water Use and Reuse Update. This issue also marks the launch of a number of new projects related to water reuse or non-potable water use through an urban environment in Western Australia.

Determining requirements for managed aquifer recharge in Western Australia

The principal aim of this project is to address knowledge gaps relating to managed aquifer recharge (MAR) enabling government regulators to develop more rigorous guidelines and advancing water recycling as a reliable alternative for safe new supplies of water. Read more...

Characterising treated wastewater for drinking purposes following reverse osmosis treatments
This project will determine the key contaminants of concern in Perth’s treated wastewater which need to be monitored and managed, and the effectiveness of best available high technology treatment processes (MF/RO) to remove them, to ensure that any recycled water schemes which are developed will not pose a risk to human and environmental health. Premier launches water reuse project

The Western Australian Premier and Minister for Water Resources, Dr Geoff Gallop launched the Water for a Healthy Country Flagship project on managed aquifer recharge in November. Speaking at the event at CSIRO’s Floreat site, the Premier acknowledged the project partners for their groundbreaking work in the area of water reuse. Read more...
Minister presents cheque for water research
Christmas came early for CSIRO project leaders when WA Minister Kim Chance delivered a cheque for $222,000 on behalf of the Premier’s Water Foundation. The Minister for Agriculture and Forestry, the Midwest and Wheatbelt visited CELS in Floreat just two days before Christmas to officially hand over the cheque and tour the CSIRO labs. Read more...
