Advanced climate change model in action

Climate change simulations are underway for the Australian region using an advanced version of the highly-regarded CSIRO Mark 3 coupled oceans-atmosphere model.

Dr Tony Hirst, who leads modelling development at the Wealth from Oceans Flagship, says the Mark 3.5 model will have application in a key area of the Flagship's research in long-term climate change simulations. Read More

Southern Ocean impacts on Australian climate

Findings from a Southern Oceans research initiative have contributed significantly to the Wealth from Oceans Flagship research in developing ocean-based forecasts of Australian climate. Read more

CSIRO fellowship for biofouling expert

An expert in the biology and control of marine organisms which grow on submerged surfaces or biofouling, James Cook University's Head of Aquaculture, Professor Rocky de Nys, has been appointed as a Flagship Fellow with the Wealth from Oceans Flagship.

The Fellowship provides the Flagship with the opportunity to work with Professor de Nys, a world-renowned expert in scientific and commercial issues associated with biofouling. Read more

CSIRO scientists elected to Australian Academy of Science

Three of CSIRO's leading scientists – Professor Brian Boyle, Dr Steve Rintoul and Professor Andrew Holmes – have been elected as Fellows of the Australian Academy of Science.

The Fellowship of the Academy consists of about 380 of Australia's leading experts in the physical and biological sciences and their applications. Read more

Farming expert sets the scene

In February this year, the Wealth from Oceans Flagship held the "Oceans to Rain" science workshop in Launceston. The aim of this workshop was to discuss the science issues and drivers likely to affect future directions of this research which is examining ocean based forecasts of Australian climate. Read more

Meet Dr Richard Matear

The Wealth from Oceans Flagship is a CSIRO initiative and part of the National Research Flagships program that aims to deliver scientific solutions to advance Australia's most important national objectives. One of the largest scientific initiatives ever mounted in Australia, it aligns closely with the Federal Government's National Research Priorities. The initiative brings together our national research resources to deliver breakthroughs in fields ranging from healthcare to light metals and the environment.
