Building a Water Resources Observation Network

Managing the competing demands on water supply looms as one of Australia's biggest environmental challenges. Enter the WRON, the Water Resources Observation Network, a new development that promises to transform national water resource management through harnessing high technology. CSIRO, through the Water for a Healthy Country Flagship, have recently committed $9 M for the initial development of the WRON, an information system that will ultimately tell us how much water we have now and expect to have in the future, who is entitled to use it and under what conditions. Building on the capacity of our partners, this powerful web based reporting tool will tailor information to suit the individual needs of users, providing information to support informed water management decisions.

Read more about the WRON in this recent ECOS article.
