In recent months, the Food Futures Flagship has forged ahead on a number of fronts, with project announcements and presentations in Australia and overseas.

Developing a taste for the future

Photo: Salmon roeA new science-industry partnership is recruiting an elite pool of Atlantic salmon bloodlines to transform Tasmania's $170 million Atlantic salmon industry.
Only the healthiest, fastest growing and finest quality Atlantic salmon families will be selected in a commercial breeding program being developed by Salmon Enterprises of Tasmania (Saltas) and CSIRO through the Food Futures Flagship. Read more

An internationally renowned researcher in nanostructured materials and biomaterials, Dr Nicolas Voelcker, has been awarded a Visiting Fellowship within the Food Futures Flagship to boost efforts to develop new livestock breeding technologies. Read more

Matthew Miller, post-graduate student with the Food Futures Flagship's Advanced Genetics program, recently received the Best Poster award at the XII International Symposium of Fish Nutrition and Feeding at Biarritz, France. Matthew is based at CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research in Hobart and with the University of Tasmania in Launceston. Read more
