The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation is Australia's national science agency and one of the largest and most diverse research agencies in the world.
The Moonie region is largely in south-western Queensland east of St George and represents 1.4 per cent of the total area of the Murray-Darling Basin (MDB).
The region has a number of small settlements including Thallon and Nindigully but no major towns. The region is based around the Moonie River.
