The Ovens region is one of a series of 18 regions being assessed as part of the CSIRO Murray-Darling Basin Sustainable Yields Project.

Background
The Ovens region is in north-eastern Victoria and represents 0.7 per cent of the total area of the Murray-Darling Basin (MDB).
The region has a population of around 46 000 people concentrated in the centres of :
- Wangaratta
- Myrtleford
- Beechworth
- Bright.
