Paroo, CSIRO Murray-Darling Basin Sustainable Yields Project overview

The Paroo region is one of 18 regions being assessed as part of the CSIRO Murray-Darling Basin Sustainable Yields Project.

The Paroo region is located predominantly in Queensland and forms part of the north-western edge of the Murray-Darling Basin.

The region represents 3.4 per cent of the total Basin area, with a population of less than 700 people.

The region's main land use is broadacre livestock grazing for beef and wool production.

Current surface water diversions for irrigation make up less than 0.1 per cent of the total Basin, and groundwater use is less than 0.1 per cent of the total Basin.
