The Wimmera region is the third of 18 areas within the Murray-Darling Basin which is being assessed as part of the CSIRO Murray-Darling Basin Sustainable Yields Project
The region is in western Victoria, based around the terminal Wimmera River, Avon River and Yarriambiack Creek, and represents three per cent of the total area of the Basin
The region's population of about 50 000 represents 2.5 per cent of the total Basin popuation and is concentrated in the major centres of Horsham, Stawell and Ouyen
