Dr Albert Van Dijk, improving our understanding of ecohydrology through the application of remote sensing and modelling.

Dr Albert Van Dijk: improving our understanding of water resources

Dr Van Dijk combines satellite data and ground data with computer models to quantify and understand our land and water resources.

Current activities

Dr Albert Van Dijk leads the leads the Water Resources Assessment and Accounting research stream in the Water Resources Observation Network Theme of the Water for a Healthy Country Flagship. This stream is developing technology for nation-wide water resources assessment and accounting.

He also leads the Terrestrial Remote Sensing and Ecohydrology team in CSIRO Land and Water's Environmental Observation and Landscape Science research program. This team is investigating interactions between climate and vegetation and its role in coupling the water and carbon balances through use of remote sensing data.

Background

Dr Van Dijk's expertise includes:

Dr Albert Van Dijk is is leading the development of nation-wide water resources assessment and accounting technology that integrates satellite and ground data with hydrological models.
  • land use impacts on land and water resources
  • remote sensing applications in land and water resources management
  • dryland and surface water hydrology
  • the role of vegetation in water, carbon, energy and nutrient balances.

Dr Van Dijk's professional experience includes:

  • Research Scientist, CSIRO Land and Water, 2003-present
