Current activities

Dr Chunji Liu’s main interests are in developing and using molecular tools for crop improvement.

Currently he is leading the work on host resistance to the diseases Fusarium head blight and crown rot in wheat.

Dr Liu joined CSIRO following a three-year postdoctoral position working at Europe's premier research centre in plant and microbial science.

Background

Dr Liu joined CSIRO in 1993.

Born in China, Dr Liu trained and worked briefly as a wheat breeder in China before moving to England in 1986.

Dr Liu completed his Doctorate in wheat genome mapping in the United Kingdom (UK).

He joined CSIRO following a three-year postdoctoral position working on genome mapping in millet at the John Innes Centre in Norwich, UK, Europe's premier research centre in plant and microbial science.

Academic qualifications

Dr Liu holds the following qualifications:

  • a Bachelor of Agricultural Science in agronomy, Hebei Agricultural University, China, 1981
  • a Master of Agricultural Science in plant genetics and breeding, Hebei Agricultural University, China, 1984
  • a Doctor of Philosophy in wheat genome mapping, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, 1990.
