Dr Eric Lehmann: integrating and analysing remotely sensed data

Dr Eric Lehmann uses information from remotely sensed (satellite) and other data to provide information on environmental factors such as vegetation cover.

  • 9 May 2008 | Updated 14 October 2011

Current Activities

Dr Eric Lehmann is a member of the Terrestrial Mapping and Monitoring research group within CSIRO Mathematical and Information Sciences Division.

Dr Lehman uses information from remotely sensed (satellite) and other data, to provide information on environmental factors such as land use, and land use change.

He also develops new models for the analysis of spatial and temporal data, and tests these models for accuracy.

Currently, Dr Lehmann is working on the analysis of radar images (synthetic aperture radar data) for the purpose of assessing vegetation trends over time.

Dr Lehman uses information from remotely sensed (satellite) and other data, to provide information on environmental factors such as land use, and land use change.

Background

Dr Lehmann graduated in 1999 from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ), Switzerland, after which he relocated to Australia to continue his studies.

He worked as a research engineer for National ICT Australia (NICTA) in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory.

Dr Lehmann held a postdoctoral position as a Research Fellow at the Western Australian Telecommunications Research Institute (WATRI) in Perth, Western Australia. He joined CSIRO in 2008.

Academic qualifications

Dr Lehmann has been awarded a:

  • Diploma of Electrical Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, Switzerland in 1999
  • Master of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering from the Australian National University, Canberra, in 2000
  • Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering also from the Australian National University in 2004.

Associations

Dr Lehmann has been a Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) since 2002.
