Dr Peter Franzmann’s primary research interests include water treatment microbiology, bioremediation and mining biotechnology.
Research topics of special interest have included:
- biological treatment of water
- microbiology of water distribution systems
- environmental microbiology
- mining biotechnology especially bioleaching of metals from ores.
Background
Dr Peter Franzmann has 25 years experience in environmental microbiology, initially in understanding processes in Antarctic environments, and over the last 15 years, the application of biological processes in engineered environments. He has most recently worked on projects for the water, remediation and mining industries.
Academic qualifications
Dr Peter Franzmann has been awarded a:
- Bachelor of Science (Honours) from the University of Queensland, Australia, in 1978
- Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Queensland in 1983.
Achievements
Dr Peter Franzmann is the author of 83 journal articles, 51 reports, 15 book chapters and 15 conference papers.
Dr Peter Franzmann has won several awards including:
- Australian Antarctic Medal (1995) for outstanding service in Australian Antarctic Expeditions
- Frank Fenner Research Award (1994) of the Australian Society for Microbiology for the best microbiological researcher under the age of 40
- CSIRO Award for excellence in collaboration and team building (2002).
