Dr Robert Woodcock's current interest is the development of software frameworks which support modelling and simulation of geoscience problems using grid and web service technologies.
Current activities
Dr Woodcock is currently responsible for software engineering in the Computational Geoscience for Predictive Discovery theme, and coordinates the Exploration & Mining Division's activities in the Solid Earth and Environment Grid.
His current focus is on the development of a software framework to support modelling and simulation of geoscience problems using Grid and Web service technologies.
His objective is to develop a community of practice - the Solid Earth and Environment Grid - so industry, government and academic organisations can easily exchange geoscience information.
This will also enable the provision of computational services to assist in decision support, mineral exploration and environmental management.
Background
Dr Woodcock joined the CSIRO in 2002.
He has worked most recently as the Chief Technical Officer for Super Software International and previously as the Manager of Research and Development at Fractal Technologies (formerly Fractal Graphics).
His primary research interests are in the development of interoperable grid and web services and computational simulation for the geosciences.
Dr Woodcock coordinates the Exploration & Mining Division's activities in the Solid Earth and Environment Grid.
