Current activities

Dr Russell Taylor's research topics of special interest include:

• salt removal from treated wastewater by electrodialysis
• finding the means of eliminating the formation of blue water from the corrosion of copper plumbing
• developing sensors for the monitoring of waters and wastewaters during treatment
• investigating corrosion mechanisms using scanning microelectrodes
• electrochemical solar energy conversion.

Background

Dr Taylor's first position after receiving his PhD was as a Lecturer at the State College of Victoria, Melbourne, Australia where he taught physical sciences in the Department of Environmental Studies. 

Dr Taylor became a Research Scientist in 1978 and progressed to Senior Research Scientist at the Defence Science and Technology Organisation's (DSTO) Materials Research Laboratories in Maribyrnong, Victoria, Australia. 

He investigated various aspects of corrosion in the defence context and was involved in the early stages of interfacing computers with electrochemical instruments. 

In 1986 Dr Taylor was appointed to the position of Senior Research Scientist, and then Principal Research Scientist at CSIRO's Division of Materials Science and Technology, Clayton, Victoria, where he initiated a program of corrosion research and consultancy on a wide range of materials. 

Following this, he became Team Leader, Environmental Technologies and Materials Evaluation, CSIRO Materials and Manufacturing Technology and was a member of the Division's Research Strategy Team. 

Dr Taylor moved to CSIRO Land and Water in 2006.

Academic qualifications

Dr Taylor has been awarded a:

• Bachelor of Science (Honours) from the University of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 1969
• Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 1973
• Diploma in Education from the University of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia,  1974.

Achievements

Dr Taylor is the author of 26 journal articles, 48 reports and 37 conference papers.
