Dr Dreccer studies the physiological basis for enhanced adaptation of wheat to rainfed farming systems in the northern wheatbelt of Australia.
Current activities
Dr Fernanda Dreccer focusses on identifying traits associated with increased yield and reduced ‘screenings’ under drought.
Dr Dreccer is also interested in understanding salt tolerance of cereals and the application of non-invasive techniques for mass-screening of germplasm.
Background
Dr Dreccer has made a significant contribution to the understanding of the physiological basis of radiation and nitrogen use efficiency in wheat and oilseed rape. She has also worked in the adaptation of various crops, to environmental or management factors.
She has recently begun to study the performance of synthetic wheats under rainfed and potential conditions.
Academic qualifications
Dr Dreccer holds the following qualifications:
- Agronomy engineer (Honours), University of Buenos Aires, Argentina
- Masters in Crop Science (cum laude), Wageningen University, Germany
- PhD (Honours), Wageningen University, Germany.
