Dr Klaus Gessner: modeling processes critical to mineralisation

Over the past decade Dr Gessner has been involved with the development of concepts, algorithms and computational codes for the description and modeling of geological processes critical to mineralisation.

Current activities

Dr Klaus Gessner is a Visiting Researcher with CSIRO's Exploration and Mining.

He is also Senior Lecturer at the School of Earth and Geographical Sciences (SEGS) at the University of Western Australia, Perth, where he is affiliated with the Centre for Exploration Targeting (CET).

Dr Gessner is part of the Earth Systems Modeling Group (ESMG); a cooperative venture between:

• CET
• CSIRO
• Predictive Mineral Discovery Cooperative Research Centre (pmd*CRC).

The ESMG develops and delivers educational programs, teaching tools and research in the area of earth process simulation with a focus on mineral exploration (targeting) applications.

Background

Dr Gessner began as Visiting Researcher with CSIRO in mid-2001.

His previous appointments include:

• Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz, Germany, 2000
• Visiting Research Fellowship, CSIRO Exploration and Mining funded through the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), 2001

Academic qualifications

Dr Gessner's qualifications include:

• Diploma, Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität Frankfurt, Germany, 1996 with a thesis Deformation of Precambrian Rocks of the southern Mount Lofty Ranges between Norton Summit and Crafers, South Australia.
• Doctor of Philosophy, Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz, Germany, 2000, with a thesis Eocene nappe tectonics and late-Alpine extension in the central Anatolide belt, western Turkey - structure, kinematics and deformation history.
