Biomolecular Interaction Facility

Biomolecular Interaction Facility

CSIRO’s Biomolecular Interaction Facility specialises in the application of sensor platform technology to resolve the binding specificity, kinetic parameters and affinity associated with molecular interactions.

  • 22 January 2009 | Updated 14 October 2011

Overview

CSIRO's Biomolecular Interaction Facility offers accurate determination of binding reaction kinetics and thermodynamics for a wide range of biomolecules, via surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensor instruments:

  • Biacore T100
  • ProteOn XPR36.
The facility offers its services to CSIRO investigators as well as to external collaborators and customers.

The advantages of SPR-based sensors include:

  • low sample consumption
  • real-time measurement of binding reactions
  • no labelling required of reaction binding partners.

Capability

The facility offers its services to CSIRO investigators as well as to external collaborators and customers.

Our clients include biotechnology companies within the pharmaceutical industry and universities.

Typically, high quality kinetic analysis can be completed within two to five days of receiving the samples.

Current throughput for antibody screening is approximately 100 samples per day.

What we provide

The facility accommodates a range of services that include:

  • collaborative research
  • contract research
  • assay and method design/development
  • routine sensor analysis
  • consulting.

We have performed the following types of analytical work for various customers:

  • kinetic and thermodynamic measurements of protein-protein interactions
  • rapid kinetic screening of monoclonal antibody-antigen interactions straight from crude hybridoma samples
  • development of rapid and generic protocols for antibody-antigen interactions, including the determination of active concentration of protein derived drugs.
  • kinetic and thermodynamic measurements of low molecular weight compounds (drugs) binding to protein targets
  • SPR-based screening of small molecule (fragment) libraries for drug discovery
  • binding interactions of liposome-embedded receptors with their binding partners.
