The Marsfield site in Sydney, NSW, is headquarters of the CSIRO ICT Centre and the Australia Telescope National Facility. It is also the Sydney site of the Anglo-Australian Observatory.

Sydney: Marsfield, NSW (Radio Physics Laboratory)

CSIRO’s Radio Physics Laboratory at Marsfield in North Sydney is the headquarters of CSIRO ICT Centre, CSIRO’s Australia Telescope National Facility (ATNF), and the Anglo-Australian Observatory.

Location summary

The CSIRO Radio Physics site is located 20 kilometres north-west of Sydney and is the headquarters for:

  • CSIRO Information Communication Technology (ICT) Centre
  • Australia Telescope National Facility (ATNF).

The site is also home to the Anglo-Australian Observatory (AAO), a joint Australia-United Kingdom facility.

Research activities

The laboratories conducts research into:

  • autonomous systems
  • networking technologies
  • wireless technologies.

ATNF staff based at Marsfield, manage the Australia Telescope, which includes radio telescopes at Narrabri, Coonabarabran and Parkes, in New South Wales. Researchers are also developing technologies to improve and develop radio telescopes.
