Location summary

Set in the agriculture and food technology precinct of Werribee, CSIRO Food and Nutritional Sciences' Victorian site is ideally placed for its close interaction with the dairy industry.

More than 120 staff are employed at Werribee, on various projects that address the food processing and dairy needs of Australian industry.

The site includes five 200 square metre registered food factory modules, including supporting kitchens and food preparation areas, as well as a 35 L High Pressure Processing Unit.

Several associated industry groups have a presence at the Werribee site, including:

• Dairy Industry Association of Australia
• Dairy Ingredients Group of Australia
• National Foods Limited.

Location activities

Research at the Werribee site is focused on food processing and dairy. The skills of the staff include:

• innovative processing technologies via the Innovative Foods Centre
• separation technologies
• cheese processing
• micro-encapsulation.

Staff at Werribee also contribute to the Preventative Health and Food Futures Flagships.
