  • plant growth facilities.

Laboratory facilities at the QBP include:

  • a focused suite of web-accessible databases
  • tools for the storage and analysis of information.

Activities

Research at the precinct includes:

  • genome mapping
The QBP is Australia’s largest research facility dedicated to human, animal and plant biotechnological research.
  • the genetic and biochemical basis of growth, health and production of plants and animals
  • proteins and their interactions
  • bioinformatics
  • tropical and agricultural landscapes
  • water resource futures
  • rangelands and savannas
  • crops for northern Australia including wheat, sugar, soybean and macadamia
  • image analysis for biotechnology
  • wood quality, production and evaluation for Australian and exotic tree species.

As a purpose-built collaborative research facility, the QBP brings together:

  • scientists from CSIRO
  • the University of Queensland's Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB).

This mix of scientific staff interactions generates strategic benefits both in terms of research and the sharing of infrastructure costs.

As part of the global scientific community and in strong partnerships with universities, other science agencies and industry, we bring to bear the latest scientific discoveries and advances in technology to tackle the social, economic and environmental challenges that face Australia (CSIRO Strategic Plan 2007-2011).
