CSIRO's working environment is as diverse as the research, science and services we deliver.
We ensure that our people have access to support services and work in safe, happy and comfortable environments.
Employee assistance program
Employees of CSIRO and their immediate family have access to a free, voluntary and confidential counselling service, at any time. This enables them to discuss a range of issues either work-related or personal with a qualified professional.
CSIRO employees have access to appropriate first aid services wherever work is carried out. A number of CSIRO people are trained and authorised First Aid Officers.
Many of CSIRO's sites within Australia have health promotion support facilities such as showers, change rooms, sporting fields and gymnasiums.
CSIRO employees are encouraged to make a regular commitment to a healthy lifestyle and actively participate in the health promotion programs offered.
Health and safety
CSIRO is committed to continually improving health, safety and environmental standards wherever we work to minimise the risk of:
- injury to staff, visitors and contractors
- harm to the environment.
In CSIRO there is a professional team of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) managers to advise and guide staff to ensure that they are provided a safe working environment and to improve CSIRO's safety culture.
On commencement, a CSIRO staff member participates in a safety induction program to ensure new staff have the necessary information to carry out their duties in a safe manner.
CSIRO provides a smoke-free work environment for everyone. Smoking is prohibited in all buildings and vehicles under the control of CSIRO. It is also prohibited outside buildings in any area where smoke may be drawn into the fresh air intake ducts, open doorways or windows.
