Fruit and Vegetable stall

It's common knowledge that lifestyle can influence our health. But for many, even an active healthy life won't protect them against disease. It's already in their genes. But in the future, food may be the answer. Once the Human Genome Project has finished charting all human genes, nutritionists, like Dr. Katrine Baghurst from Australia's science organisation CSIRO, will be able to advise us what to eat to ward off inherited conditions, such as diabetes and heart disease.

But there's an even more exciting possibility. In the future extra genes maybe able to be added for further protection.

More knowledge about the genetic profile of individuals, and the ability to produce food with altered nutrition, will help those people suffering from allergies to specific foods, and help reduce the risk for major chronic diseases.
