CSIRO Livestock Industries has a strong and vibrant postgraduate student training program and offers PhD studentships (scholarships).

There are currently around 70 doctoral and masters students within CSIRO Livestock Industries – either on CSIRO studentships or supervised by CSIRO researchers.
The postgraduate students have an important and integral role in CSIRO's research projects.
Locations
Research in CSIRO Livestock Industries is conducted at five sites in four Australian States:
- FD McMaster Laboratory, Armidale, New South Wales
- Queensland Bioscience Precinct, Brisbane, Queensland
- Australian Animal Health Laboratory, Geelong, Victoria
- Australian Tropical Sciences and Innovation Precinct, Townsville, Queensland
- Centre for Environment and Life Sciences, Perth, Western Australia.

PhD scholarships
At two of these sites CSIRO Livestock Industries offers a number of studentships to commence in January 2012.
Applications for studentships have opened in September 2011 and close on Friday, 4 November.
Eligible applicants must be Australian citizens or residents, and should be completing or have completed an Honours degree (or equivalent) in agricultural or veterinary sciences or related disciplines.
The successful candidates will be chosen on academic merit and will be able to choose a project from a number of specific research areas.
Studentships are currently valued at up to A$30 000 per annum and are tenable for three years. Successful candidates will be required to enrol for a doctorate at an appropriate tertiary institution in Australia.

Opportunities for research towards Honours degrees are also available at some sites, in conjunction with Deakin, Melbourne, Monash and La Trobe universities in Victoria; the University of New England in New South Wales; and the University of Queensland.
