The primary goal of establishing the Tasmanian Information and Communication Technologies Centre (TasICTC) is to support the Intelligent Island objective of contributing to the development of an internationally competitive ICT sector in Tasmania.
Tasmanian ICT Centre objectives
TasICTC’s objectives are to:

develop a world-class ICT research capacity

conduct innovative applied research, initially in sensor networks and data management

seek to commercialise outcomes of this research.
In pursuit of this, TasICTC will engage and collaborate with:

Tasmanian ICT industry

key ICT users
-
research organisations.
Strategy
TasICTC’s objectives will be achieved through four key strategies:
Creating a research capability, delivering research outcomes, building partnerships with researchers and industry.

building research capability – creating a pool of high quality ICT researchers with entrepreneurial skills.
TasICTC is also committed to:

increasing the availability within Tasmania of world-class ICT research skills

providing postgraduate training

attracting ICT researchers from within Australia and overseas.

conducting innovative research – delivering high-level research outcomes relevant to industry and aligned with the National Research Flagships program.
TasICTC will:

developing linkages and collaborations – building networks in Tasmania and beyond, with the ICT industry, education and research organisations.
TasICTC will also act as a catalyst for the ICT industry in Tasmania and facilitate participation in CSIRO’s major research programs.
